New Senior Pastor

It is our pleasure to announce to the church that the Reverend Dr. Brian T. Parcel is our new permanent Senior Pastor, effective July 1, 2010.

Brian grew up in Ventura, CA. He came to faith in college and later felt God’s call to ordained ministry. He attended Claremont School of Theology, and served at Westmont UMC in Pomona, where he met and married his wife, Christi. They have two young children, Landon and Isabella. Brian is currently serving in his fifth year as Pastor of the First UMC of Santa Maria, CA.

Brian served on the Conference Board of Congregational Development for eight years, including leadership of the Congregational Development Leadership Academy that several of our leaders will attend in the coming weeks. Pastor Luis Garcia has known Brian for some time and respects his ministry. Brian and Christi enjoy activities with their children. Brian loves sports of all kinds, particularly surfing and golf. He enjoys reading books on a wide range of topics.

Pastor Brian is married to Christi who is active in the local church teaching children’s Sunday School, organizing various local mission opportunities like clothing and food drives, serving on a Mexico Mission Team the last two summers and also coordinating activities for a small group comprised of families with young children in the church. currently works as a Health Assistant in a local Elementary School, was a stay at home mom for a few years and prior to having children was a Recreation Supervisor active in managing various programs in at-risk communities.Their two children Landon (almost 6 years old) and Isabella (4.5 years old) are active in Sunday School, sing in the Children’s Choir, enjoy playing baseball and soccer, riding their bikes and playing outside.

Together the family enjoys the beach, bike riding, swimming, playing with their dog (Sonia) and cat (Hootie) and opportunities to visit Pastor Brian’s family in the Central Valley area of California and Christi’s family in Washington State.

Pastors Rob and Luis will continue to be in close contact with Brian, and our staff will also have access to him in the coming months. Brian will conclude his ministry at Santa Maria UMC and join us following Annual Conference in June. Let us all hold Brian and his family in prayer during this time of transition, and also pray for his congregation, which will now enter the appointment process to secure another pastor. Brian also reports that he speaks Spanish.
